    • Questions you have with which your colleagues may be able to provide help and support.
    •  My help is needed in understanding the written assignments better.  If anyone can give me hints to score better on my assignments I would greatly appreciate it.  I guess I am not understanding what all the professor wants in the assignments.   I have contacted the writing center for help but have not heard from them--I emailed them Friday.
    • Resources and information you are seeking.
    •  I am seeking any information any one has on the teaching/learning modalities...kinetics, visual, and auditory.  I have gotten a lot of information from my colleagues, the Internet, and our local library.  The best information I have gotten is from my colleagues.
    • Resources and/or information you have found helpful and insightful.
    • Talking face to face is the best resources for me. My brother has been a big help on my fear of public speaking.  He gave me the suggestion of using a practice audience before I do the real thing.  SOOOOOOOO this weekend I gave my speach to my family during our cookout.  My audience consisted of a high school teacher, an IT personal, a business manager, two bankers, and two factory shift managers.  Great questions were asked by all and now I have a better idea of how to make my speech better.  I asked them all to comment on my speaking skills and most said I need to slow down and make more eye contact....now I'm working on that too.

  1. Hello Christina,
Writing an effective advocacy plan is not a simple task. There are so many things that we need to consider.I would strongly suggest that you contact Professor Laurie, she has been a tremendous help for me. I have called her at least eight times, if not more and I will call her again if I need to. I remember when we first started this class, one of the questions on the pretest involved what to do when we get stuck (call). I will admit, this is a difficult class. I think it's difficult because this is our first experience with writing out specific steps to a plan that we need to implement. I understand your fear of public speaking. Have you considered presenting in a informal setting. Because of my fear of public speaking, I decided to do a round table discussion. I am going to serve refreshments and have an open discussion about my plan. By doing it this way, I will be more comfortable and more open to feedback.

  2. I agree with Vertina- contacting the professor in a personal phone call is such a great help. I spoke to her before the first assignment, and I still did not get a good grade on the first assignment. So I called her again, and again-- she didn't mind- I promise. I got it straightened out and I understood a lot better- which now I am getting As on my assignments now. What is it that you are struggling in on your assignments? The goals? The plan itself? Maybe I can help as well.

  3. I agree-Call her! She is a huge help on the phone. Believe me she has talked me off the ledge more than once. She will take your call day or night. I have called her more than once in a day. I do not think the assignments are very clear either, so talking to her really helps. she is very personable on the phone.
Great idea to practice in front of your family. Having feedback to improve is great. I am doing a round table discussion in front of 7 people on Thursday. After I answer any questions I am giving the people a questionnaire for feedback that I will pick up the next day.
    Good Luck to you!
